SURF'S UP - Animation Shot Builds

Making of the Wave (no sound)

Runtime 00:52 This video shows the multitude of technical layers that comprised a wave in SURF’S UP. Since each wave was built from the ocean floor up, a special rig was created to accomplish the task of animating the surf environments, a feat that took over a year to accomplish. An average wave shot in this film included more than 460 million particles, including whitewater explosions, spray off the lip of the wave, spray from the surfboards, and all the other elements that go into a wave. In total, over 48 trillion particles of water were used to create the amazingly realistic waves on which Cody and his friends surfed.
